Blink-182, from San Diego (California), formed in the fall of 1991, when the eighteen year old Mark Hoppus (bass and vocals) met Tom Delonge (guitar, vocals), four years younger.
The duo, who at first is simply called Blink, then added drummer Scott Raynor, the group began playing in clubs around San Diego area, inter alia by friendship with the band of Vandals – whose tiny label, Kung Fu, BUDDHA allows them to publish in 1994.
Less than a year later, the Cargo Records put the trio under contract: even if for only one and not very successful album, Cheshire Cat. Thanks to the hard, however, Blink expand their following, especially in Australia – something that convinces the MCA to take the trio under his wing. In 1997, as well, Blink – in the meantime they have added a “182″ in their name – publish DUDE RANCH, which went platinum in Australia, gold in Canada and the United States. Thanks to the power of radio, “Dammit (Growing Up),” the first single from the album, it also becomes one of the five songs in the U.S. chart. Blink continue their live performances, and at the end of 1998, Scott Raynor left the band and was replaced by Travis Barker – former drummer of the Vandals – who along with Hoppus and DeLonge gets to work with Enema of the State, published in July 1999. Following the release of the first single and video of the first group, there are many controversies: it begins to spread the word that the magazine “Playboy” has asked the Blink of obtaining some nude photos of fans to publish, in addition to the punk band San Diego and around dissociate too frivolous attitude of Blink, a porn star who choose to illustrate the cover of their cd.
Despite the controversy, the album sold over four million copies and on the success in 2000 the band released the live THE MARK, TOM AND TRAVIS SHOW (THE ENEMA STRIKES BACK). The following year, the three continue to ride the wave with lucky TAKE OFF YOUR PANTS AND JACKET, appearing in the film “American Pie”, playing themselves.
After a period of rest – which allows, inter alia, to Barker to make an album and touring with the Transplants – in 2003 the band released the album BLINK-182, which represents a partial departure from the usual style of the band.
In November 2005 he was released GREATEST HITS, accompanied by statements of Delonge who wants to take a break from the group to dedicate himself to other projects, including tensions with Hoppus.
August 2006 – against the advice of DeLonge – Hoppus said that the band is ready to make his latest album, although tensions between the members refer work. Delonge it announced the creation of his new band Angels & Airwaves, in addition to the intention – then confirmed in April 2007 – to make a film about the last days of the existence of Blink-182, in which the narrator is the champion of Tony Hawks skateboarding.
The band was originally found in 2008 at the bedside of Travis Barker, survived a plane crash. Thus begins to perform live again and prepare a new album, still without titolo.
