Green Day

The group was founded in the late ’80s from the ashes of Sweet Children, the band from Rodeo, California, where Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar) and Mike Dirnt (bass and vocals) will make the bones from the earliest age. In 1989 the Lookout for the group’s first EP, 1000 HOURS, followed a year later by another EP, Slappy, and a first album, 39 smoothe.

Bloc Party

Formed in London Bloc Party are Kele Okereke (vocals / guitar), Russell Lissack (guitar), Gordon Moakes (bass / vocals) Matt Tong (drums). Okereke and Lissack met at the Reading festival and form the core of the group, in addition to the other two soon. The first demo was sent around in 2003, as Union. A copy is also sent to Franz Ferdinand, who invited them to play at the party label Domino.

METALLICA

The group was founded by a meeting between James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. In January 1982 the training begins to take shape with the arrival of Dave Mustaine on lead guitar and Ron McGovney on bass. At the end of ’82 enters the new bassist Cliff Burton – who dies in a tragic car accident Sept. 26, 1986 – replaced two months later by Jason Newsted.

Metallica record, with Mustaine Kirk Hammett instead of, their debut album, KILL ‘EM ALL, in May 1983. Since then the rise of the group is phenomenal. From MASTER OF PUPPETS, the third album released in March 1986, Metallica only reap success, at least until the celebrated BLACK ALBUM.

Jesus and Mary Chain

In 1984 the brothers William and Jim Reid formed with Douglas Hart and Murray Dalglish the Jesus and Mary Chain. Dalglish will be replaced by Bobby Gillespie and J & MC moved to London to sign with Alan McGee’s Creation Records, releasing the single “Upside Down”. Are introduced to London audiences for their energetic shows, which often end in a brawl, during which their backs to the public.

Girls Aloud

The Girls Aloud formed in England in 2002 after winning a television program called Popstars: The Rivals. The band members are Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Cheryl Tweedy and Kimberley Walsh.

Pearl Jam

Summer 1984: born in Seattle band Green River (formed by Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard). In October, the Green River are the supporter to the Dead Kennedys at the Moore Theatre in Seattle.

December 1987 – January 1988: Green River will melt, but Gossard and Ament formed a new band, Mother Love Bone.
March 16, 1990: Death of Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone voice. Later that year, despite the band to dissolve, out of the “Apple”, debut album of Mother Love Bone. The album will be released again in 1992 with the new title of “Mother Love Bone.”
Summer 1990: After the results of “Mother Love Bone,” guitarist Mike McCready joins Ament and Gossard and begins to take form the nucleus of a new band. The trio recorded a demo tape that falls into the hands of Eddie Vedder (even in passing of Jack Irons, the future drummer of Pearl Jam), which affects his voice, his songs and sends him back to Seattle.

Fiery Furnaces

The Fiery Furnaces – Matthew Friedberger and Eleanor Friedberger – are formed in Brooklyn in 2000. Signed to Rough Trade in 2002, when he also recorded their debut album, GALLOWSBIRD’S BARK, well received by critics, who compares them to the White Stripes.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

After the dissolution of Kyuss, singer guitarist Josh Homme moved from Palm Desert, California to Seattle, where he played for a couple of years with the Screaming Trees, and fits into the local scene, collaborating with former Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepard.

In 1997 as the Queens of the Stone Age with former Kyuss drummer Alfredo Hernandez. The band released an EP, debuting in 1998 and in the same year he joined the band Nick Oliveri, another veteran of Kyuss.

Steve Earle

Initially dubbed “the new Bruce Springsteen” for his civil commitment, Steve Earle was born January 17, 1955 in Virginia.
He moved to Houston to pursue a music career, makes it the first album in 1986 GUITAR TOWN, work-oriented country that is revealed to be an immediate success also receiving a gold record.
