Robert Nesta Marley was born February 6, 1945 in St. Ann, Jamaica to Norval Marley Sirclay, a naval officer and Cedella Malcolm, a native of 18 years.
Left by his father when he was still young, he spent his adolescence in Nine Miles, and Kingston, where he moved with his mother in 1957. There she meets Neville O ‘Riley Livingstone, said Benny with whom he shares a passion for music. In 1962 he recorded his first single, “Judge not” and the following year he formed the group of teenagers with Peter Tosh, Bunny Livingstone, Junior Braithwaite, Kelso and Cherry Smith Benerly then rename Rudeboys The Wailing Wailers and, finally, accounting for at legendary Studio One, Coxsone Dodd in the production, I’M STILL WAITING. In 1964 their single “Simmer Down” scale the heights of the Jamaican charts, as well as other individuals in the band two years until in 1966 the group disbanded the following year only to reform with Livingstone and Tosh. Meanwhile, in February 1966, Bob married Rita Anderson, and spent several months with the U.S. parent. Back in Jamaica joins, as well as other Wailers, Rasta movement that gives new spirituality to his music and pushes more and more to deal with themes of social protest. (more…)
