Carole Klein – this is his real name – was born in Brooklyn, New York, February 9, 1942. Began playing the piano at age four years and formed her first band, a vocal quartet called the Co-Sines in high school. University meets Paul Simon, Neil Sedaka and Gerry Goffin, with which he began to write songs. In 1959, Sedaka comes to success with “Oh! Carol, “a song written as a tribute to the King, who responds with” Oh! Neil “his piece, however, does not get as much luck. Goffin, meanwhile, became her husband and two gives rise to a fruitful artistic collaboration: the first major success came with “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”, performed by the Shirelles in 1961, their next effort, “Take Good Care of My Baby” , is written for Bobby Vee and comes topped the charts, as well as “The Locomotion,” recorded by Little Eva, the couple’s baby sitter. Goffin-King signed with more than 100 hits, including “Chains” (starring the Beatles) and the beautiful “(You Make Me Feel) Like A Natural Woman”, made famous by Aretha Franklin. (more…)
